How each show is counted
Count your own dog in how many were there. A dog entered in the class counts as present if it was at the show for its first class of the breed.
| Show | Per class 1st | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Championship, CCs for your breed | 3 points, 3 or more present | None |
| Championship, no CCs for your breed | 1 point, 2 or more present | 1 a show |
| Open show | 1 point, 2 or more present | 1 a show |
Questions exhibitors ask
Do Best of Breed and Best Puppy count?
Yes, when no class win scored that day: Best of Breed, Best of Sex, Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy of Sex are worth 3 at a CC show (beating 2 others) and 1 elsewhere (beating 1). The rules don't say whether two can both count, so we count one.
Do group placings and Best in Show count?
At open shows, yes: a group or puppy group placing, Best in Show, Best Puppy in Show or either reserve gives that show's 1 point (since 1 July 2022). Not at championship shows. Brace, Reserve CC and Special Awards classes never count.
Which shows count towards the 6 to 18 months?
From the 6-month birthday to the 18-month birthday, in calendar months; a show on the 18-month birthday is counted but flagged. For a show over several days, enter the first day, which class ages use. The RKC doesn't say which day counts for the Junior Warrant.
When do I have to send the Junior Warrant claim?
Within six months of the show where the dog qualified. The claim lists each show's name, date, class and award and points in date order, like the printout. Keep your marked catalogues: the RKC may ask for proof.
What is the Junior Award?
The version for breeds without CCs, from 1 July 2025: 20 points between 6 and 18 months, with at least 3 at championship shows, 3 at open shows and 7 from breed classes or best-of awards. Every class first beating one other scores, even several a show, but Any Variety classes only at open shows. Choose it under Dog details.
How do Veteran Warrant points work?
From age 7 on the first day of the show, AV veteran, AV special veteran and veteran stakes classes at general and group open shows score 4, 3, 2 and 1 for first to fourth. One claim per show, 25 points, no time limit. Breed and AVNSC veteran classes don't count.
Rules from the Royal Kennel Club. Its website was offline for rebuilding in October 2026, so these are saved copies: Certificate types (April 2026) · Junior Warrant claim form · Points criteria expanded (2022) · New Junior Award (2025). Not connected with the RKC, which checks every claim and decides it.
